I should have written this a long time ago, but things have gotten in between, and I wasn’t really sure what to think about this game honestly.

The main character in The witcher 2 is Geralt of Rivia, I monster-hunter or Witcher. If you’ve played The Witcher, the first game in the series, you’ll recognize him, as well as some other characters in this game. The game starts in a prison, or more like a dungeon where you are interigated by a captain of the king’s guard (or something like that). During the interigation you “relive” the events you’re questioned about. This, I asume is kind of a tutorial to the game, even though it’s really difficult for a tutorial (this is a standard separate tutorial as well, just to learn how to use powers and fight).

The game does not feature class choices or character customization from the start. You are stuck with Geralt and his abilities. You can however, customize your character in different areas when you level up, so I asume there’s different ways to play the game.

I’ve only played through the interigation part, so I can’t say anything about the size of this game yet, but after what I’ve heard it’s big, with a lot of side quests. One thing I will say though, is that the game is kind of difficult right from the start, I also quickly discovered one of the annoyances of this game. The game seem to be using quite a few quicktime events. Quicktime events are ok in some places,, I can live with them in Mass Effect, but here they were a bit annoying, not sure why. Maybe it’s because this could have been done just as well in the game engine. This is just my personal openion and nothing that should ruin the game.

The combat, however is awasome, it feels really good and fluid. I don’t know any other way to describe it.THis is an area where the game really shines.

The game has crafting as well, it seems quite simular to the original game, but I haven’t done enough of it yet to say anything about it.

When looking at an RPG you have to look at the story and the charactrers in the game. I’ve only just started this game, but I like the story so far. I don’t think it has the same character depth as some other games though. I guess the game I have to compare this with got to be the dragon age series, and in my openion those games, especially Dragon age: Origin has more character depth,

Graphics

From what I’ve seen so far, the graphics in this game are awasome. A lot of attention has been paid to detail. I’m not far into the game yet, but I expect to see some great envirements throughout the game. Despite the nice looking graphics, the game runs really well on my system.

Audio

The music in this game is great, even though, again I prefer the music in DA. Same goes for the voice acting. I’ve read a lot of people think the voice acting in this game is great, but I think it varies. I haven’t experianced anything terrible yet, but I’m not as impressed as I was when first playing Dragon age: Origin. The sound effects and ambient sounds are good.

User interface

While it takes a little time to get used to, the game does a good job of telling you how to User interfaceuse abilities and other hotkeys available. Overall, the UI is good.

Gameplay

As mentioned abovbe you play as Geralt of Rivia. He seem to be a quite self-sufficient character who prefers to travel and fight alone. So far I haven’t seen any signs of party-based gameplay and I don’t expect to see it later. There’s a lot of NPCs to interact with, but I don’t think you’ll be able to form a party.

Conclusion

Overall, this game seem to be one of the better RPS over the past few years. I still prefer the Bioware RPGs over this game, but it’s still an awasome game so far.

da

Just a quick update this time. After the first seven matches, the results are 7-0-0 with a GD of +18. I’ve been using a 4-2-2-2 or 4-2-4  tactic depending on how you look at it. It’s quite offensive to say the least, but fits my players very well.

I just received my first manager of the month award.

The pre-season went really well, except I lost another coach, I now have only one coach remaining from the original staff.

The team has also had a few injuries, including Bala Musa Bajaha: My goolkeeper. I managed to sign a new young goolkeeper but he caught a flew one week before season start, so I’m not sure he’ll be ready to play.

Same goes for Leonidsson, another key player.

I now have a pretty strong squad overall, and think I can do well this season. My reqquirements are to finish in the upper half of the table, and I hope that won’t be a problem.

My squal and tactics looks like this:

It’s now time for the 2013 pre-season and I think my team might be ready to at least try to win this time. The off-season was a mess, cause I lost a few of my coaches as well as my Assistant manager. I had trouble finding decent replacements and now I have a mix of coaches and an Assistant manager that  I don’t think is that great, but he was the only one I could find. All my coaches now seem to disagree on the quality of some of my players. I’m not sure why this is, but a few players show up as 1 star for one coach and 4 stars for another. This includes my goalkeepr as well as some  players that did well last season, including Samuel Mokede.

I’ve only signed one additional player, except for the players I had on loan earlier; Yosif Ayuba. A central midfielder from DJurgården that got released.

I’m also using a young local player Named Christer Lipovac, whom according to some of my coaches is my best or second best striker. I’ll try to judge for myself and try them out in friendlies.

I feel much better about the squad overall this season.

So, I’ve now completed the first season with Karslund and despite some bad luck with injuries the team performed over expectations and finished the season in 3rd place. No promotion, but it looks really well for next season. I also managed to keep all the players I wanted, and tie some of the players I had on loan to the club. The club made a profit this season, so I’m allowed to spend more on wages and transfers next season. I started by buying the two key players I had on loan (Philip Olofsson and Miralem Malic).  I’m astill trying to get the third key player I have on loan tied to the club full time (Simon Leonidsson).

I did beat the local team Rynninge in the last match, it allmost made me feel bad cause now they are on playoffs and might be relegated. Rynninge was the team I played in FM2012.

I got rid of Calle Olsson, and gave a few players free transfers cause I don’t want them anymore.

I’ve renewed the contracts of the players I was worried about loosing, so now everything is fine I hope they’ll perform just as well next season. Kuhi (my top striker) saved a few matches and was the top scorer in the league.

Here are some end of season screenshots.

Karslund 2012 season results

As you can see in the image above we also had the least goals conceded, so, we’ve been doing really well on the defense as well as on the offense 🙂

Here you can see my current first team squad,, you can see why I really wanted to keep the players I had on loan. Note that this screenshot is taken before I made negotiations to get these players full time.

The board and fans seem to be fairly happy with me as well.

Looks like I played a pretty balanced style, nothing fancy.

The board offered me a contract for another year, so I’ll stay in the club for now. I’m currently looking for a new assistant manager, because my curren one doesn’t want to renew. Hopefully I’ll find a decent one, as well as some additional coaches for the next season.

As you can my team haven’t done that well lately, and we’re now half way through. I’ve been a bit unlucky with injuries and also had my key striker banned for the last match. Hopefully things will improve.

I also hope I get a chance to change my goals to increase my budget.

As you can see, I got off to a fairly good start, well on my way to accomplish my goal for the season (to avoid religation).

The team has been performing well despite some injuries, however I recently discovered something that I should have checked much earlier.

Most of my key players’ contracts will expire after this season.

There is no way I’ll be able to renew most of these players, even though I managed to renew Tengroths’ contract, the older players wants way to much.

Well, I guess that’ll be a problem for next season.

I’ve now played through the friendlies with mixed results.

Early on, in my 2nd or 3rd firendly, one of my key players, and captain (Samuel Mokede) was injured with a broken toe and gone for a few months. The friendlies overall went well, including a 6-4 win (not sure if this is due to the game being beta, but I had no other crazy matches like that). I’ve been using a quite offensive 4-4-2 tactic, that I’ll make available for download when I’ve tweaked it a bit. I managed to pickup a few defenders, central midfielders and a few players for the youth team, all on free transfers or loans.

Here are the players I picked up:

Here’s the team report from my current team,

This is it, next time I’ll cover the first few matches.

I recently picked up FM2013 and while it’s still in beta, it’s close to release now.

I decided to start, like I’ve done with every FM game (I’ve only been playing since FM2011), and pick a team in the lowest division from my home town (Örebro, Sweden). This season I have two teams to chose from in Swedish DIvision 2 SS; Karslund and Rynninge. I ended up picking Karlslund since this is basically where I grew up, and I did quite well with this team in FM 2011.

I’m using a huge database for this, so I can pretty much move to whatever country I want in case I get a good offer. It also gives me a lot of players to scout.

The introduction of the game has changed slightly from previous games.

Now you get a conversation screen with your assistant manager at the beginning, where he asks you what you want the staff to take care of.

Intro conversation

As you can see, I have the game set to Swedish. I used to play the previous games in Swedish and I’ll use it until I have figured out where they’ve moved everything.

I’m missing screenshots from the team report, but I’ll say that this team is lacking in a few places. It seems like I have one good defender (Erik Tengroth), One good central midfielder (Samuel Mokede) and a few decent offensive midfielders and strikers. The goolkeeper is also good.

If one of the key players is injured, I’ll be in big trouble.

I’m also on a very low budget: 10.000 SEK for transfers and 20.000 SEK for wages.

I’ll start by looking for some new defenders as well as one or two midfielders. I’ll try to get a few players on loan if I can.

Next post will cover the pre-season.

I don’t play FPS games a lot except the occasional Red Orchestra session, however, large scale battles in games have always been facinating to me. I never played Planetside 1 or any other MMO FPS but I remember reading about them (played a lot of MMORPGs at the time).

So, what can I say about PS2 after a few days of play? Well, it’s difficult to say the least, and I’m terrible at it. Even though I die a ton, I enjoy the game and find the large scale battles very imersive. The game still has a few problems, but I asume most of this  will be fixed before launch on November 20th.

No other game has these kind of large  scale combined arms battles. I’ve never experianced anything like this in an FPS, or any other game for that matter. The only real problem I have with the game is that it’s quite difficult to get in to if you haven’t played Planetside 1. Most games these days go to far with tutorials, but this game could certainly use it.

The game has three different factions with different weapons and vehicles, even though they share some equipment. There is a never ending battle going on between these factions and the goal is to control as much of the game map as possible. The map consists of “hexes” with control points and resources. THe faction in control of each “hex” with get the resources. You capture a control point by hacking terminals. Resources are used for buying weapons and vehicles.

Graphics

The graphics are really good for an MMO.  The effects from some of the weapons are stunning, especially at night.

Audio

The game has some great music and the sound effects are just awasome.

User interface

The user interface is fairly simple, and for the most part, easy to read and use. I haven’t really tried to customize anyting yet, so I’m not really sure how customizable it is.

Game play

As I’ve allready mentioned, this game plays like most FPS games, except on a huge scale. You have 6 classes to pick from, and you can change class at most facilities in game. The classes are Infiltrator (stealth, sniping), light assault, heavy assault (with ati-vehicle weapon), combat medic, engineer (reapir, place turrets, mines tec.) and MAX (Heavy trooper with dual weapons, that can take quite a few hits, however it has some limitations). Throughout the game you’ll get “Cert” points that can be used to unlock new weapons and customizations.

COnclusion

RIght now, this game looks really promising. If they can keep this game Free to play without making it pay to win, I think this can be a huge success.
